Are you passionate about empowering young people, shaping civic conversations, and delivering projects that make a real impact?
Join a national organisation with a global reach, where your project management skills will help bring together young changemakers from across the country in a once-in-a-generation Youth Parliament experience
We're looking for a creative and committed project manager to lead the Y's Youth Parliament – an exciting, high-energy initiative that brings together the voices of young Australians to the heart of decision-making. If you're someone who thrives in dynamic environments, loves working with diverse people, and wants to make your mark on something big, this is the opportunity for you.
The Organisation
The YMCA ('the Y') is the largest youth movement in the world, reaching 65 million people in over 120 countries, in every continent. In Australia, our 12 member associations span 680+ communities Australia wide, through the dedication of our 11,500+ staff and volunteers.
Across our federated setting, the Y provides a broad range of services that support children and young people across the course of their lives – from childcare, outside school care and youth development programs, to disability services, access schools, meaningful career pathways and community recreation services.
We are a small team at Y Australia with important work to do, in enabling and amplifying the power of our federation; building our collective capability; and leading strategy, public policy, engagement, advocacy and other national functions in support of the Y in Australia.
How we work together is important to us. We embrace diversity and difference, and are committed to building a respectful, inclusive, flexible and intergenerational workplace. We welcome applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, people with disability, and people of all ages, genders and sexual orientation.
The Role
As Project Manager – Youth Parliament, you'll be the driving force behind the design, planning and delivery of a landmark youth civic engagement program.
This is a project role with a big heart and a wide reach. You'll collaborate with teams from Y Victoria, Y Queensland and Y Canberra to coordinate a Youth Parliament project that empowers young people to learn about government, develop policy, and speak directly to decision-makers.
From running co-design workshops with young leaders, wrangling logistics and ensuring child safety is front and centre – you'll lead this project from start to finish. Think fast-paced, impact-driven, and deeply rewarding. In this role, you will:
* Lead the end-to-end management of the Youth Parliament project, including recruitment, planning, delivery and wrap-up.
* Coordinate cross-functional teams across multiple Ys to ensure a consistent and inclusive experience.
* Be the key contact for stakeholders – from politicians and public servants to young participants and partner organisations.
* Lead youth co-design, manage project logistics, oversee safety protocols, and facilitate evaluation and reporting.
* Apply a youth empowerment lens to every step – this is their platform, and you're here to make it shine.
Who You Are
We're looking for a passionate project manager with a strong understanding of government, community or youth development. You know how to juggle timelines, engage with diverse groups, and get things done. You might come from a youth, community, government or events background – and you thrive in purpose-driven environments.
You'll bring:
* Experience delivering multi-stakeholder projects (bonus if it's youth, civic, or education focused).
* Strong knowledge of government, civic education or public policy.
* Great communication skills – written, verbal, digital – and confidence dealing with external stakeholders.
* Ability to lead and coordinate teams (both in-person and remotely).
* A belief in safeguarding and empowering young people every step of the way.
You may also have:
* A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., Youth Work, Community Services, Social Work, Project Management).
* Experience with residential youth programs or duty-of-care environments.
What You'll Get
* A chance to lead an initiative that will shape the civic futures of young people across Australia.
* Flexible hybrid working (based in Melbourne or remote-friendly with travel).
* Extra leave during the December/January closure period.
* Learning and development support – we invest in growth.
* Access to wellbeing initiatives, EAP, and free use of Y Victoria facilities.
* A chance to work in a creative, energised office that's collaborative, fun, and purpose-led.
