About Us
The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness, and response services, including scientific and specialist capabilities, to Queensland communities. The QFD offers multi-hazard emergency responses such as road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and supports community safety outcomes. The department includes Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), and other units working collaboratively to prevent, mitigate, and manage emergencies across Queensland. QFD is committed to enhancing its relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities through initiatives like Path to Treaty and Closing the Gap.
Purpose of the role

Mandatory requirements
Applicants must provide evidence or successfully complete:
* Valid Blue Card from Blue Card Services
* Manual Medium Rigid (MR) driver’s license recognized by the Department of Transport and Main Roads
* Current Apply First Aid Certificate
* Current Advanced Resuscitation Certificate
* Compliance with QFD medical and fitness standards
* Criminal History Check
* Clinical Psychometric Assessment
Your key accountabilities
Operations Management
* Respond to fires, road crash rescues, technical rescues, hazardous materials, and other emergencies as part of a fire crew.
* Operate emergency response vehicles and equipment safely and effectively, including driving fire appliances under various conditions.
* Provide first aid and resuscitation when needed.
* Maintain equipment, resources, and facilities to ensure operational readiness.
* Perform functions that apply acquired skills and knowledge, including research, risk reduction, readiness, response, and recovery.
Community Safety Operations
* Support fire prevention awareness through community education programs.
* Assist with property inspections, evacuation planning, and emergency response procedures.
* Communicate effectively within the workplace, with emergency personnel, and community members.
Professional Development
* Maintain competencies and pursue training opportunities for self-development.
* Participate in tactical, operational, and technical training to acquire and maintain skills.
Operations Business Management
* Undertake administrative duties, maintain records, and contribute to a safe work environment.
* Promote a positive team environment and uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
* Ensure compliance with legislative, policy, and procedural requirements, including WHS legislation.
