We are seeking a Health & Safety Manager to lead safety management across specific sites within the Southern Program Alliance, contracted by the Victorian Government to remove dangerous and congested level crossings. This role emphasizes safety leadership, community engagement, environmental care, and respect for Traditional Owners, with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes and lasting improvements.
The Opportunity

Responsibilities
- Guide and support program leadership to develop and implement a safety culture aligned to the company vision, including safety training in safety-critical roles.
- Maintain robust risk management processes, capability, focus, and discipline related to safety.
- Investigate all on-site events and recommend actions to prevent recurrence; incidents are reported and investigated according to seriousness.
- Maintain comprehensive safety records, manage statutory reporting requirements, and monitor safety performance.
- Manage and support project safety advisors and coordinators (direct reports) to ensure values, behaviours and performance are monitored.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legal, regulatory and company safety requirements and communicate changes to the workplace.
- Manage the Safety budget for the package, including coordination with the commercial team on monthly forecasting and budget reporting.
Required Skills And Competencies
- Tertiary Qualification in Health Safety or equivalent.
- Safety Lead Auditor Qualification (highly desirable) but not essential.
- Minimum 8 years as a safety professional with at least 4 years in a safety leadership role managing a team of safety professionals.
- Minimum 5 years in construction, heavy industry, high-risk workplaces, rail, engineering, or related fields.
- Knowledge of safety legislation and statutes (especially Work Safe) and ability to interpret applicable statutes relevant to the project.
- Current driver license and own reliable vehicle.
