Pathology Queensland invites applications for a Chemical Pathology Registrar who will contribute fully to department activities, to the extent of your ability and level of training, under the guidance of the Discipline Medical Director, Chemical Pathology. As a Chemical Pathology Registrar you will be involved in education and research activities, will provide clinical support and set a professional example to more junior clinician and/or scientific staff. A competitive salary applies which includes base salary, vocational training subsidy, professional development leave, examination leave, 5 weeks annual leave and 12.75% superannuation.

About Pathology Queensland

Pathology Queensland (PQ) provides diagnostic pathology services to all Hospital and Health Services (HHS) across metro, regional and remote Queensland and plays a critical role in the government's response to public health threats, epidemics, and civil emergencies.

Purpose of the role

This is to contribute fully to departmental activities as a Chemical Pathology Registrar, to the extent of your ability and level of training, under the guidance of the Discipline Medical Director – Chemical Pathology.

Your key responsibilities

You will be required to fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with the Queensland Public Service values.

* Adhere to defined service quality standards, health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
* Understand human physiology, biochemistry and metabolic processes and to be able to apply this knowledge in clinical medicine
* Accrue scientific knowledge and expertise in order to understand, evaluate and use technological methodology applied in diagnostic medicine
* Consult and advise clinicians and laboratory staff on the appropriate use of the laboratory in diagnostic medicine and assist in problem solving
* Validation and reporting of chemical pathology test results
* Perform appropriate diagnostic procedures on patients and deal with any medical emergency that may ensue in a professional manner
* Comply with NATA/ISO7025 accreditation requirements including performing quality control procedures, assist with preparation of procedure manuals and completion of relevant statistics
* Have the ability to contribute to original research and to participate in research activities
* Participate in education activities, e. presentation at Clinico-Pathological meetings, teaching of medical students and laboratory staff
* Display a high level of initiative in working in a complex laboratory environment

Role specific criteria

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

* Demonstrated academic achievement and interest in Chemical Pathology; proven ability to succeed in medical examinations
* Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a team member and to relate successfully with other staff at all levelsl
* Ability, interest and willingness to participate in the teaching of Chemical Pathology and in research

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

* MBBS or equivalent, and must be registrable with the Medical Board of Australia
* The incumbent must become a registered trainee with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia
* Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.

(VPD) requirements

* It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
