Role
Kaplan Australia is looking for an experienced Policy Manager to take ownership of our academic policies and make sure they are clear, compliant and fit for purpose.
In this role, you will be the go-to person for academic policy governance, ensuring everything we publish meets regulatory requirements and is ready for approval by our Executive and Boards. You will act as the final quality check before policies are approved and released, playing an important role in protecting the integrity, compliance and reputation of the organisation.
Responsibilities
Own and maintain the Academic Policy Framework, including lifecycle management, review schedules and approval pathways.
Ensure all academic policies align with regulatory and legislative requirements including HESF 2021, RTO Standards and ESOS/National Code obligations.
Act as the final internal governance reviewer for all new and amended academic policies prior to committee submission.
Provide expert advice and guidance to academic policy authors on governance standards, compliance requirements and policy drafting.
Coordinate academic policy approval processes across working groups, Policy Committee, Academic Board and Corporate Board.
Prepare high-quality governance papers, approval briefs and summaries of material changes.
Oversee version control, approval documentation, publication accuracy and archiving of superseded policies.
Monitor regulatory developments and proactively recommend policy updates, supporting audit readiness and risk management.
Requirements
Tertiary qualification in Education, Law, Governance, Compliance or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
Demonstrated experience in academic governance, higher education compliance or regulated education environments.
Strong working knowledge of HESF 2021, RTO Standards 2018 and ESOS/National Code requirements.
Proven experience writing, reviewing and managing academic policies through formal governance processes.
Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, defensible policy language.
Strong governance judgement with the ability to act as an independent quality gatekeeper.
High attention to detail, including document control, version tracking and approval documentation management.
Confidence engaging with senior leaders and presenting to governance committees.
