About the Organisation
Townsville Flexible School is a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition. There are 21 Flexible Schools throughout Australia who offer a full-time and multi-year secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Enrolled young people may express a broad range of complex education and social needs, and flexible schools respond with a variety of flexible and innovative teaching and learning practices, including vocational planning and the development of social connectedness.
The purpose of a Flexible School is to provide young people with a varied and holistic set of learning experiences supporting them to identify and pursue an individual transition to adulthood, employment, further education and training, and social connectedness.
About the Role
The Youth Worker reports to the Area Principal or delegate. The Youth Worker supports and leads:
Effective learning and teaching programs for young people in both middle and senior phases of secondary education.
Physical health and emotional well-being of the young people.
Development and implementation of the school's strategic and operational plans regarding the function of your role as youth worker.
Maintenance of a supportive and inclusive school environment.
Relationships with the school, staff, students and their families, industry, and community organisations in relation to planning, actions and achieving outcomes.
Young people to engage with relevant external agencies through appropriate referral pathways and stakeholder meetings.

Essential Qualifications
A Working with Children Clearance Notice.
Current driver's licence (essential) or Light Rigid licence (highly desirable).
Previous experience in the youth sector with knowledge and understanding of the local First Nations communities.
Highly Desirable
An understanding of and commitment to principles of social justice.
Understanding of current youth work practice, trends and issues in service provision to marginalised young people particularly within the alternate education sector.
Sound level of verbal and written communication skills, including participating in meeting processes, report writing and negotiation skills.
Skills in computing (especially word processing, Internet) and ability to develop skills in database.
Proven ability to work autonomously and in an integrated manner as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
Qualifications at Degree, Diploma or Certificate level with Social Work/Youth Work experience (or working towards a qualification) or equivalent life experience.
