Description
The job of teacher is to support the instructional process by supervising students in the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individualized instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom issues; and responding to inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instruction programs and student progress.
This job reports to the principal.
Essential Functions
* Assess student progress toward targets and standards to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration throughout the learning process.
* Communicate clearly and accurately with all students to provide feedback.
* Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
* Deliver instruction that engages all students and adjust lessons based on student progress to improve academic and interpersonal skills.
* Design classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans aligned with state and district standards.
* Design and administer assessments aligned with instructional goals; use data to evaluate student competency, develop individual learning plans, and/or plan instructional groups.
* Direct and support student teachers, instructional assistants, and volunteers to ensure an effective classroom program and address individual student needs.
* Maintain accurate and timely records to monitor student progress.
* Manage student behavior, classroom procedures, and physical space to provide a safe and optimal learning environment where students are respected and valued.
* Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
* Reflect on practice regarding strategies, behaviors, and lesson effectiveness to enhance student achievement.
* Respond to emergency situations and report incidents to maintain student safety, provide a positive learning environment, and adhere to education code and school policies.
Qualifications
The classroom teacher must have a valid Illinois teaching license endorsed in learning behavior specialist.
