The Guidance Officer - Wellbeing role is a specialised guidance role, with a particular focus on therapeutic support for students with mild to moderate mental health concerns. The role will deliver a range of services to the school community, with a key aspect being to provide counselling and structured wellbeing supports to students. As the Guidance Officer – Wellbeing,will support students with a range of personal and social issues, such as addressing mild to moderate mental health concerns, managing peer and family relationships, and improving engagement with schooling.

With this specific focus on wellbeing support, the Guidance Officer - Wellbeing has a narrower focus of the Guidance Officer role. The Guidance Officer - Wellbeing works closely with Principals, leadership teams, community agencies and the student support team, including other Guidance Officers within the school. Applications should address the Guidance Officer role description as well as detailing transferable skills, experience or knowledge in delivering student wellbeing programs, therapeutic interventions and relevant mental health training.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

* Advocate for students by delivering counselling, psychoeducational assessments, and tailored support, providing expert advice to students, parents, and teachers on educational, behavioural, mental health, family, and career matters.
* Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive case management, referrals, and partnerships with families, school staff, and external agencies to enhance student engagement and access to learning.
* Assess and identify student learning, developmental, behavioural, and emotional needs through observation and formal assessment, and recommend appropriate educational adjustments, interventions, and individualised plans.
* Support schools in implementing student protection, behaviour support, gifted education, risk management, Senior Education and Training (SET) planning, and career pathway development, including intensive behaviour support where required.
* Maintain ethical standards of confidentiality and professional record-keeping, provide leadership during critical incidents and transitions, and contribute to ongoing professional development and training for school communities.
