Remuneration: Officer 6 in the AMWU salary structure ($119,369.41)
Contract: Fixed term contract from March 2026 to October 2027

The Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union (AMWU) is looking for a Project Officer (Women in Trades and Tech) to join our Breaking the Barriers project team, driving real change by improving workplace cultures and structures that currently act as barriers to women entering and staying in trade and tech careers. We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced Project Officer, to be located in Perth WA.
The Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union (AMWU) is a progressive trade Union dedicated to advancing the rights and wellbeing of manufacturing workers and their communities. AMWU members work in the metals trades, printing, paper industry, vehicle industry, food and confectionery industry as well as technical trades and professions.

About The Role
Aligned with AMWU values, we are looking for an applicant with a strong commitment to improving workplace conditions for women, a positive and solutions-focused approach, and the ability to collaborate within a team to achieve better outcomes for workers.
We highly value experience in a union, but please apply if your experience has developed elsewhere and you're able to demonstrate how your skills are transferable.
This is a national project funded by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. Some regional and interstate travel will be required. The Project Officer will report to the National Project Co-ordinator and the WA Branch Secretary.
Salary is aligned with AMWU Officer Level 6.
Responsibilities
* Establish partnerships with companies to implement programs that improve the recruitment and retention of women in trades and technology roles.
* Deliver training to workers and management to support workplace culture improvements.
* Coordinate the delivery of training programs, in partnership with TAFEs, to upskill women into apprenticeships and technology careers.
* Connect women jobseekers with employment opportunities through partner companies.
* Provide regular progress reports to the project Steering Committee, Project Coordinator and State Secretary.
* Work collaboratively with AMWU Officials, workplace representatives, management, VET stakeholders, and schools to promote career pathways and employment opportunities for women in trades.
Selection Criteria Essential
* Stakeholder Management – demonstrated ability to build and sustain positive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
* Problem Solving – demonstrated problem solving skills and initiative.
* Project Management – demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, budgeting, execution, monitoring and evaluation.
* Organisation and Prioritisation – demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritise workload to achieve team objectives within set timeframes.
* Verbal and Written Communication – excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to build relationships with multiple project stakeholders.
* Computer skills – a good working knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint programs.
* Driver's License – there will be some regional and interstate travel required.
A genuine commitment to Trade Unionism is essential.
Desirable
* Experience working in the manufacturing, construction, technology or clean energy industries.
* Training qualifications or experience delivering training.
* Health and safety experience or qualifications.
* Experience as a union delegate, HSR or official.
* Understanding of trade careers, including vocational education and training pathways.
* Working with Children Check (WWCC) or ability to gain one.
