About the Role
Princess Alexandra Hospital is a busy metropolitan tertiary referral hospital situated in Brisbane, South East Queensland. PAH performs approximately 20,000 surgical procedures per year in its 21-theatre complex, plus several outlying areas, and is a centre of excellence for adult surgery.
We are:
1. a major teaching hospital and is affiliated with the University of Queensland
2. the state centre for renal and liver transplantation and is the busiest renal transplant centre in the Southern Hemisphere.
3. a level four trauma centre
4. home to the South-East Queensland spinal injuries unit
5. a busy cardiothoracic surgical unit operating with a medical perfusion model
All surgical specialties except Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Burns are represented here.
The Department of Anaesthesia is one of the largest in the state, with an experienced staff of dedicated consultants. Consultant supervision and expert advice is always on hand.
A provisional fellowship year at PAH offers a unique opportunity to develop both advanced clinical skills and the non-clinical skills required for consultant practice in a supportive and collegiate tertiary hospital environment.
In addition to clinical training, PFs are expected to take part in education, research and/or quality assurance activities.

7. We have a simulation lab on site, and there are opportunities to become involved in nursing, junior doctor and medical student education
8. PAH is the Queensland state centre for Anaesthetic Allergy testing, and there are opportunities to become involved in the allergy testing clinic and educational workshops
9. PAH was the first hospital in Australia to become fully digital. PFs have the opportunity to be involved in clinical informatics projects
