About The Team

The Department of Industry, Science and Resources (the department) is partnered with the Australian Public Service Commission to lead the recruitment process for the Australian Government Graduate Program (AGGP) – STEM Stream. This offers candidates with a Major in Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics, the opportunity to be considered for a role as a graduate within a number of Australian Public Service (APS) agencies who participate in the program.

The STEM Stream is designed to set you up for success beyond the graduate program, providing a strong foundation for a rewarding and impactful career in the Australian Public Service.

Graduates in this stream will be placed in a participating APS department or agency. You will have an opportunity to provide your preferences for the 2027 STEM Stream at a later stage of the recruitment process.

Depending on where you are placed you may have opportunities to work on a range of different initiatives. Some of the work STEM graduates may be able to experience include:

* advancing women in STEM strategy
* international and national space negotiations and agreements
* earth observations
* robotics
* neuromorphic engineering
* chemical and biological analysis
* electro technology
* genomics
* cyber security
* technology and programming
* software engineering
* geophysics
* spatial analysis

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Australian Government Graduate Program (AGGP) – STEM Stream, you must meet ALL of the following requirements:

* You must be an Australian citizen at the time of commencement.
* Hold a recent STEM qualification
o You must have completed, or be due to complete, an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 7 qualification (Bachelor degree) or higher in Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics, or an equivalent qualification.
o Your eligible STEM qualification must have been completed between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2026.
* Overseas qualifications (if applicable)
* Any relevant overseas qualification must be recognised by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR).
* You must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.

Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Notes

A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.

The department does currently offer flexible work opportunities for many roles. This vacancy is based in multiple locations, although flexible or remote work arrangements may be considered. Please reach out to the contact officer to discuss this further.
