The role
The Audio Lead is a key editorial and people leadership role within SBS News and Current Affairs, responsible for shaping the direction and impact of our audio journalism. Working with the Managing Editor, you'll lead a team of Audio Journalists and Supervising Producers, drive daily news coverage, podcasts and major series – ensuring our content is accurate, engaging and reflective of Australia's diverse communities. You'll collaborate with Digital, TV, SBS and NITV teams to make the most of our distinctive newsgathering. Using audience insights and a deep understanding of the news landscape, you'll grow and evolve SBS Audio, delivering distinctive content that connects with audiences wherever they are.
What you'll do
* Lead the daily and forward news agenda for SBS Audio, overseeing bulletins, daily in‐depth podcasts and news podcast series, distributing on SBS platforms, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and other podcast providers.
* Commission and shape engaging, accessible audio journalism aligned with SBS's Charter and editorial standards.
* Guide storytelling, ensuring accuracy, balance and strong multicultural and Indigenous perspectives.
* Drive breaking news and forward planning, collaborating across Digital, TV, ALC and NITV teams.
* Use data and audience insights to inform content, formats and audio distribution strategies.
* Maintain high production standards, coaching teams on scripting, storytelling, voice and sound.
* Grow and optimise SBS news audio products across platforms and third‐party channels.
* Lead, mentor and develop a high‐performing, inclusive team culture.
