About the Role
This is an exceptional opportunity to join our Public Law Litigation and Inquiries Team as a Senior Solicitor. You will work independently, with minimal supervision, to provide timely legal advice and representation for key stakeholders, ensuring that your counsel is strategic, practical, and outcomes-focused.
Your primary responsibilities will include advising on a wide range of complex legal issues, statutory interpretation, and administrative law matters. You will also manage sensitive litigation matters, such as personal injury cases, coronial inquiries, discrimination complaints, and general civil litigation claims within the portfolios of families and children, disability, and social justice.
* Provide authoritative advice on complex legal and policy issues, as well as high-level briefings and correspondence.
* Represent the department in complex and sensitive litigation across various courts and tribunals.
* Prepare briefs and instruct counsel or contracted solicitors in complex matters.

To succeed in this role, you will possess excellent legal knowledge and skills, with the ability to think critically and strategically. Your expertise should cover a broad range of legal disciplines, including statutory interpretation and administrative law. As a strong communicator, you will be able to articulate complex legal concepts clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
You will have the ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a team. Your strong interpersonal skills will enable you to build effective relationships with colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders. You will also have a commitment to lifelong learning, staying up-to-date with changes in legislation, policies, and best practices.
