Primary objective
Plan, prepare and present meals and catering for official functions hosted by the Administrator of the Northern Territory at Government
House. Maintain the commercial kitchen in accordance with Australian HACCP principles.
Context statement
Office of the Official Secretary staff support the Administrator of the Northern Territory to carry out their official duties in addition to
maintaining the upkeep of a heritage listed estate. Emphasis is placed on a high standard of work, strong attention to detail and observance
of protocols associated with the Administrator and official and ceremonial events hosted at Government House.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Plan, prepare and present meals and catering for official functions at Government House and cater for the Administrator's private meal
requirements, including sourcing local suppliers and maintaining a pantry.
2. Liaise with the House Manager to plan menus for official functions including official dinners, luncheons, and receptions and liaise with
the Administrator for private meal requirements.
1. Stock control of all perishable and non-perishable foodstuff and kitchen equipment.
2. Maintain a clean kitchen, pantry, cool-room, and freezers in a clean, organised, safe, hygienic, and tidy condition.
3. Manage hospitality expenditure purchases within budget in line with procurement guidelines and preparing cost estimates.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Minimum 3-5 years post apprenticeship, with Trade Certificate in Commercial Cookery, and demonstrated experience in catering for
large and small groups, accommodating a variety of dietary requirements, while delivering high quality catering and meals to a standard
required of a Vice Regal residence.
1. Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high level of organisation, including planning and managing concurrent events,
sourcing suppliers, and developing menus, while maintaining flexibility to adapt to changing requirements and priorities. Proficient in
administrative systems and financial management tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, Expense8, Basware or similar).
1. Proven competence in stock control, purchasing and accountability for supplies and equipment, with good knowledge of Work Health
and Safety and Food Safety Standards.
1. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with tact, diplomacy, and discretion in a confidential environment, including the ability
to engage with diverse cultures and supervise others when required.
1. A current NT driver's licence (or ability to obtain), and flexibility to work varied or extended hours as required.
