The Indigenous Youth and Family Worker (IFYW) is responsible for the provision of day-to-day support that includes reconciling young people 18 years and younger, with their families while assisting them to overcome conflict. Intensive support and practical services will be provided to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families, with a primary focus on improved connection with family, community, culture, engagement/participation in education, training and/or employment; health and wellbeing; capacity to make healthy decisions.

Duties & Responsibilities

Case Management

* Undertake case load management which may include a complexity of cases requiring more intensive interventions

* Ensure secure management of all program files and compliance with applicable privacy legislation and policies

* Assess and monitor client needs, identify risks, develop, monitor and review case plans

* Participate in all aspects of family support and case management practice as per the Human Services Quality Standards & TAIHS Family Wellbeing Practice Procedures

* Contribute to developing a community of practice through adherence to the QATSICPP Practice Standards & Supervision Framework and Common Approach (ARACY)

* Ongoing consultation with the Key Family Wellbeing Worker on all aspects of case management

* Complete initial Wellbeing Domains (subsequent and closing)

Required Qualifications and Experience

* Certificate level qualification minimum relevant to the work required to be performed, e.g. Certificate IV in Community Services or equivalent

* Previous experience in a relevant industry, service or an equivalent level of expertise and experience to undertake the range of activities required

* Demonstrated knowledge of child development and parenting skills models and theory, Attachment theory and Strengths based service delivery

* Sound knowledge of conflict resolution and mediation practice

* Proven ability to operate within a case management model

* Ability to work with a team that reflects respect, transparency and acknowledgment of others

* Ability to work autonomously and display initiative, self-motivation and time management

* Well-developed oral communication skills and competence in the use of technology and desktop applications including Microsoft Office Suite

Required Licenses and Checks



Ability to pass a National Police Check – no Serious/Criminal/Court Records



Current Blue Card (Queensland's Working with Children Check)



Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld)



Current First Aid and CPR Certificate



Proof of qualifications and current registration (as appropriate) are to be provided prior to commencement of employment
