Full Time six month appointment at 76 hours with the possibility of
extension and/or permanency.
We currently have one full
time fixed term (6 months) position available.

a shared on-call roster (24-hour support),
providing emergency incident coordination and advice across
hospital and community settings Position
Profile The Child and
Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) is seeking an experienced
Emergency Management Coordinator to lead and
strengthen our preparedness for incidents, emergency and disaster
events In this role,
you will engage with stakeholders at all levels of the
organisation, focusing on emergency preparedness, response
coordination, continuity planning and safeguarding the safety of
our patients, families, and staff.
You will draw on your
operational and legislative knowledge in incident coordination,
emergency planning frameworks, fire safety, emergency codes, and
infrastructure failure response.
You will also
provide expert advice and recommendations to the Emergency
Management Committee, executive groups, and external agencies and
represent CAHS at inter-agency forums to support both state-wide
and local disaster preparedness initiatives.
Key
responsibilities include: Managing the CAHS Emergency Management Unit and ensuring compliance with Australian Standards 4083 and AS3745 Planning for Emergencies in Facilities.
Developing, reviewing, and overseeing emergency procedures, business continuity plans, and Code Brown/CBRN strategies.
Leading emergency training, drills, and exercises to meet accreditation requirements.
Coordinating responses to live emergencies as part of the Hospital Incident Management Team, including activating and supporting the Emergency Operations Centre.
Building strong collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen emergency readiness.
Providing subject matter expertise to support stakeholders, research, and special projects.

health setting together with strong knowledge of legislation and
Australian Standards for emergency management in healthcare

Management Unit play a critical role in supporting CAHS, including
Perth Children's Hospital (PCH) specialist paediatric
services, and associated community-based services across the Child
and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS).
We are committed to ensuring

people—including vulnerable patients—families, and
visitors, in alignment National Safety & Quality Health Service

Our core
responsibility is to build and maintain the organisation's
capacity to effectively prepare for, respond to, and recover from a
broad range of incidents and disruptions.
These include clinical
emergencies, infrastructure failures, public health threats such as
pandemics, and external events like natural disasters.
A key focus of our work is
the delivery of emergency management training across the
organisation.
This includes the planning and facilitation of
simulations, drills, and scenario-based exercises designed to
ensure consistent standards of emergency readiness across hospital
and community sites.
And strengthen our workforce's ability
to respond effectively in critical situations.

response to the following scenario: You are
the Manager of the Emergency
Management Unit at a major metropolitan hospital in
Perth.
The facility includes over 250 inpatient beds, an Emergency
Department, ICU, and Mental Health Units.
It serves a diverse
population and is located near critical infrastructure and
transport corridors.
Following a
recent internal audit and external review by the Department of
Health, you've been tasked with leading a full-scale update
of the hospital's emergency management framework.
The goal is
to ensure full compliance with Australian
legislation, relevant standards, and
to strengthen leadership
coordination across departments.
Shortly after
initiating the update, the hospital experiences a real-world
emergency: a multi-day heatwave combined with a bushfire threat
causes mass presentations to the emergency department, power
disruptions, and partial evacuation of one wing.
You are now
responsible for leading the hospital through
the response and recovery phases.
Using your
training, experience, and leadership capabilities, describe how you
would lead this initiative from planning through to post-event
wrap-up.
Your response should demonstrate knowledge of relevant
legislation, Australian Standards, and emergency management
leadership.
