NDE Engineer (Starship)
The NDE Engineer will be part of the NDE Engineering organization, reporting directly to the NDE Engineering Manager. This role involves collaborating across various business groups to design and deliver cutting-edge inspection solutions and advanced data analysis, thereby enhancing manufacturing processes and ensuring flight reliability of our vehicles.
Duties:
1. Oversee all phases of automated NDE inspection system design and implementation to meet capability, rate, and quality targets for the Starship Program.
2. Collaborate with engineering teams to define inspection requirements, capabilities, and data interpretation.
3. Support initiatives like NDE automation, increased detection probability, reduced cycle time, and defect reduction.
4. Assist NDE specialists in developing, qualifying, and deploying new inspection processes, including documentation and training.
5. Define integration test plans with milestones aligned to the program timeline.
6. Lead cross-functional discussions with electrical, software, manufacturing, and vehicle design teams.
7. Debug hardware and software interactions during design, launch, and deployment phases.
8. Analyze field data to enhance NDE system design and performance.
9. Present risk and performance analyses to cross-functional teams, including executives.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or computer science.
2. At least 3 years of hands-on technical engineering experience.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
1. Familiarity with NDE techniques such as ultrasonic testing, eddy current testing, digital radiography, etc.
2. Ability to multitask across technology development, project management, and training.
3. Master's or PhD in engineering.
4. 6+ years of relevant experience.
5. Strong project management skills.
6. Knowledge of statistical modeling, machine learning, and optimization.
7. Understanding of hardware and software development and validation.
8. Familiarity with JIRA or similar systems.
9. Experience with automation and robotics.
10. Proficiency in software coding (LabVIEW, Python, C#, SQL).
11. Problem-solving skills using tools like Practical Problem Solving, 8D, etc.
Additional Requirements:
1. Flexibility to work extended hours, including weekends.
2. Ability to work at heights (scissor lifts, boom lifts).
3. Ability to pass Space Force / Air Force background checks.
4. Willingness to travel to vendors and other SpaceX sites.
