The Opportunity
Monash Animal Research Platform (MARP) provides excellence in the provision of husbandry and technical support for animals used in a range of animal production and research programs within Monash University.
Reporting to the MARP Veterinary and Scientific Services Manager, the MARP Veterinarian forms part of a dynamic team accountable for the delivery of a comprehensive program of veterinary care encompassing the animals and activities supported by MARP.
You will use your high-level veterinary expertise to provide advice and develop solutions to emerging challenges in the research animal space, implementing changes where appropriate, to ensure best practice is maintained and animal welfare and research outcomes are optimised. In addition to clinical veterinary care for animals, the role may include teaching and training in procedures and techniques for researchers and animal technicians as well contributing to standard operating procedure and policy review and development.
A degree in Veterinary Science, with registration, or registerable status as a Veterinary Surgeon in the state of Victoria, is required. A focus on achieving excellence in animal welfare, the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, and a willingness to develop, learn, and apply knowledge in support of continuous improvement in research animal care and use are essential attributes for success in the role.
Experience in animal-based research, particularly in the laboratory animal setting, will be highly regarded; however, support to develop expertise in the research setting will also be available for the suitable candidate.
This role is casual and may vary between 7 – 35 hours per week depending on the successful candidate’s availability and operational requirements.
