The Role
Our News and Current Affairs team has developed a leading-edge digital strategy and is looking for an experienced senior News Editor who shares our vision of increasing quality content online.
* Supervise a team of dynamic and dedicated digital journalists, editors and sub-editors to ensure SBS News generates, develops and fosters content ideas that uphold SBS standards and reflect the SBS Charter and its unique identity.
* Reporting to the Senior Editorial Lead NACA Digital, and working closely with the Features Editor and Supervising Video Producer, you will act as the newsroom's Digital Chief of Staff, leading the on-the-day coverage of major news events, assigning reporters to cover national and international news stories as well as reactive content.
* Liaise with correspondents across Australia, in Europe and Asia, as well as the wider newsroom and other SBS verticals, lead training and provide feedback to the Digital team, cross-platform reporters and Canberra bureau, and attend planning meetings with the wider newsroom.
* Across major national and international news stories and know how to tell them differently to reflect Australia's diversity, as well as deliver them to all Australians in a timely and compelling way.
* It is a requirement of this role that incumbents are vaccinated with at least two doses of an approved Covid-19 vaccination. We do however have a medical exemption process and we would be happy to discuss your application should this be applicable to you.
About you
The successful applicant will work on ensuring all SBS News content meets the standards our audience expects and that it is presented in a distinctive way that best showcases the brand and aligns with our Charter. Critical to your success is your high level of editorial judgement to curate the SBS News digital platforms and oversee the production of SBS News content.
Ideally, you will bring:
* exceptional knowledge of international and national news stories, and ability to research and fact check news and feature material, and to look beyond traditional sources.
* strong knowledge of media law. You must be alert to the latest and continually evolving trends in digital content production, distribution, consumption and data analysis both domestically and internationally.
* the capacity to work collaboratively across multiple teams across SBS, including Audio & Language Content (Radio) and Social Media Teams.
