Job Description of Senior Mechanical/Design Engineer
To contribute to ongoing activities within the AirWingTM programme.
The role spans concept development through to the creation of detailed manufacturing drawings and requires a broad, adaptable skill set suited to a fast-moving engineering environment.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will work where creativity meets precision, ensuring designs are elegant, robust, and production-ready.
Lead the mechanical and structural design of AirWingTM subsystems from concept through to manufacturing release.
Produce 3D models, detailed drawings, and supporting calculations, using sound analytical judgement and FEA where required.
Oversee design validation, documentation, and integration with performance, systems, and manufacturing teams.
Champion safe-by-design and design-for-manufacture principles, promoting continuous improvement and lifecycle sustainability.
Mentor junior engineers, review their work, and communicate technical outcomes clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
Uphold professional standards of engineering integrity, safety, and sustainability.
Experience / Knowledge Required
Degree-qualified in Mechanical, Structural, or Marine Engineering.
Minimum 3 years' experience in mechanical or design engineering of complex systems.
Proven ability to deliver designs from concept to production in marine or offshore environments.
Experience with heavy machinery and steel structures.
Strong design-for-manufacture skills and drawing creation.
Experience working within a design and manufacturing environment.
Desirable
Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor (or similar 3D CAD software).
Experience with class or certification requirements (e.g., DNV, LR).
Understanding of control systems and actuation.
Structural analysis skills.
Knowledge of structural testing, validation, and manufacturing techniques.
