CRVCID No. 691722
This is a Recruitment Pool for Permanent Full Time, Permanent Part Time, Fixed Term Full Time, Fixed Term Part Time, and Casual appointments, with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency.
We currently have one Permanent Full-Time position available. Part time (0.8) options may be considered for the right applicant.
About the role:
We are seeking a dedicated Medical Scientist to join our team and support the safe processing and quality assurance of donor human milk for use in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) at King Edward Memorial Hospital and Perth Children’s Hospital.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to life-saving, evidence-based care for preterm and critically ill infants—some born as early as 22 weeks’ gestation—while advancing the work of one of Australia’s leading neonatal services. In the absence of mother’s own milk donor milk provides essential nutrition for growth and plays a vital role in preventing life-threatening conditions such as necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) and sepsis.
As a Medical Scientist, you will apply your scientific expertise across all stages of donor milk handling— including donor screening, donor human milk processing (including pasteurisation, microbiological screening, and storage), inventory management, and the safe distribution of human donor milk to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at KEMH and PCH.
Working closely with lactation consultants, neonatal nurses, pathology services, and our valued donor community, you will help ensure that all human donor milk meets the highest standards of clinical safety, traceability, and ethical care—in full compliance with the Supply of Processed Donor Human Milk in WA Code of Practice and Operational Guidelines for Milk Banks in Australia and New Zealand .
This is an exciting opportunity to join a unique service and a high-performing, mission driven team. If you have experience with laboratory procedures, particularly in aseptic techniques in a regulated healthcare environment, and a strong commitment to patient safety and quality of care, we encourage you to apply.
Comprehensive support, supervision, and mentoring is provided to support your transition to our specialised neonatology environment.
About the Team
The Neonatology team delivers a state-wide tertiary service dedicated to the care of preterm and critically ill newborns.
The Perron Rotary Express Milk (PREM) Bank—Australia’s first donor human milk service—was established in 2006. The PREM Bank provides safe, pasteurised donor human milk for vulnerable neonates at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) and Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH).
Our service also supports donor mothers— whether from the community or NICU — ensuring every donation is handled with the highest standards of ethical care and respect.
