 
        
        Overview 
The Remote Area Nurse will provide a broad range of health services, including acute, chronic, and preventative care, aligned to Yolnu needs and priorities. This position is part of Marthakal’s commitment to building a solid, culturally grounded local health workforce. The Remote Area Nurse supports improved health and wellbeing for Homeland residents by helping families understand and act on their health through the Nine Healthy Living Practices and other social determinants of health. 
Responsibilities 
- Deliver comprehensive primary health care including wound management, health checks, and child/maternal health. 
- Lead and support Homeland clinic outreach in partnership with Yolŋu staff. 
- Support public health initiatives including immunisation and screening. 
- Provide culturally respectful emergency and urgent care where needed. 
- Mentor Aboriginal Health Workers and trainees in clinical skills and protocols. 
- Maintain accurate health records, assist with Medicare billing compliance. 
Selection Criteria 
- A relevant tertiary qualification degree and current registration with AHPRA. 
- Current REC, MEC, BLS, ALS, Immunization, Pharmacotherapeutics certifications or willingness to obtain the certifications within 6 months of employment. 
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively and sensitively with Indigenous people for whom English is not their first language. 
- Ideally experience working and living in a remote Indigenous community, which is an alcohol-free environment. 
- Demonstrated ability and experience to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in a small, remote Aboriginal Controlled Health Service delivering primary and dental health care. 
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of social determinants of health issues affecting Aboriginal people. 
- Current manual driver’s licence, current Working with Children clearance (OCHRE Card) and current criminal history check. 
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, demonstrating efficient time management skills. 
Special conditions of employment 
- Must be an Australian citizen or have work rights in Australia to commence employment. 
- Must satisfy a criminal history check. 
- Must hold or be able to obtain an Ochre Card. 
- Six-month probationary period. 
- Referees (at least two) are required. 
- Ability to gain/maintain a current NT Drivers Licence

Marthakal Homelands and Resource Centre Aboriginal Corporation services the residents of Marthakal Homelands, and cares for land and sea country in the Marthakal region. The services include Marthakal Homelands Health Service - established in 2001 to provide a range of primary health care services across approximately 15,000 square kilometres in remote Arnhem Land; Marthakal Homeland Services - municipal and maintenance services and capital infrastructure, Marthakal Housing Services - providing repairs and maintenance to remote housing.
