If you have built a solid base in construction and are ready to step into something broader, this opportunity is worth serious consideration.
This role will suit someone who is self-directed, takes ownership naturally and wants to play a meaningful part in a growing, fast-paced business.
About Build Co
Build Co Projects is a Melbourne-based commercial builder operating across industrial, commercial and select civil infrastructure work. We are looking for an Assistant Project Manager to support a live and growing project portfolio.
Projects span industrial facilities, commercial fitout, civil works and complex pre-construction planning. The work is substantive and suited to someone who values responsibility, accountability and practical involvement across real projects.
The Role
This role is suited to someone who already has a solid grounding in construction and is looking to take the next step into project management.
Working closely with the Project Director and Civil Project Manager, you will support the coordination, contract administration, commercial controls and delivery management of projects across both pre-construction and live construction phases. The role will provide exposure across a range of project types, including upcoming civil and commercial projects, as well as ongoing project management work on a regional industrial project.
Depending on project requirements, the position may involve a mix of office-based project coordination, contract administration and commercial support, together with site-based support where needed.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
* Consultant and stakeholder coordination across active project teams
* Project reporting, meeting minutes and action register management
* Procurement tracking, subcontractor engagement and follow-up
* Programme monitoring and cost-tracking support
* Authority approval and permit workflow management
* Document control and correspondence management
* General pre-construction and delivery coordination
* Site-based delivery support where project requirements demand it
About You
You are organised, capable and commercially aware. You follow through without needing to be chased, communicate clearly and understand how quickly projects can drift when coordination is not properly managed.
You may come from a project controls, CA or coordination background and want greater exposure to live delivery and project management. Alternatively, you may come from a junior site-based role and be looking to broaden into a more rounded project management position. Either pathway can work, provided you have the judgement, work ethic and follow-through to back it up.
You are not looking for a passive support role. You want genuine involvement, clear accountability and exposure to how projects are run and decisions are made.
Qualifications
The following will be viewed favourably:
* Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Building, Project Management or a related discipline
* Diploma-level construction qualifications with relevant commercial project experience
Formal qualifications matter, but practical capability, judgement and follow-through matter more. Candidates who can demonstrate strong construction grounding and real project exposure will be considered even if their pathway has been less traditional.
Experience
To be competitive for this role, you should have:
* 3 to 6 years' relevant experience in commercial construction, industrial, civil or similar project environments
* Experience in a Project Coordinator, Contract Administrator, Assistant Project Manager, Site Supervisor or junior Site Manager role
* Exposure to consultant coordination, subcontractor management, procurement tracking, programme coordination, contract administration or approvals workflows
* Confidence working across both pre-construction and live delivery phases
* Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to manage detail, follow through and keep momentum across multiple moving parts
Why Join Build Co
* Direct exposure to project leadership and commercial decision‐making from day one
* Genuine progression pathway into project management as the business grows
* Broad involvement across pre‐construction, approvals, procurement and live delivery
* Meaningful responsibility in a business that does not carry unnecessary management layers
* Opportunity to grow with a lean and commercially ambitious operation
