Robert Half are working with an Australian academic research institute recognised internationally for its contributions.
This is a 4-month contract role with an opportunity for permanency for the right candidate, that will support the research finance function, providing management accounting, budgeting and grant-related financial oversight.
The Role
In this role, you will provide financial oversight across a portfolio of research projects, including budgeting, month‑end, revenue recognition, labour allocation and grant compliance. It also manages complex funding requirements, prepares acquittals and audit documentation, and drives process improvements across reporting systems.
Key Responsibilities
Develop detailed project budgets for grant applications, incorporating multi-year forecasting.
Certify that funds are spent in accordance with legislative requirements.
Book journals as required to reallocate grant funds across projects
Manage the complexities of international grants, including foreign exchange fluctuations and international compliance standards.
Oversee the labour reporting process to ensure staff salaries are correctly allocated across multiple funding sources.
Manage the month-end close including the accurate revenue recognition of restricted grant income.
Track the depreciation and funding of large-scale scientific infrastructure and core facilities.
Prepare financial acquittals and reports for major funding bodies.
Act as the primary point of contact for grant-specific audits by providing necessary documentation and transaction justifications.
Identify and implement improvements in Excel, Workday Adaptive, and Workday Finance.
Monitor grant instalment timing to maintain the institute's cash position for payroll and vendor obligations.
Ensure all expenditure aligns with Australian Accounting Standards.

Workday adaptive experience highly desirable.
CPA or CA qualification desirable.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skill.
Someone who wants to move from private sector to work in a for purpose environment - Prior Grants experience not essential
