ABOUT THE ROLE
You will design and optimise components for indoor vertical farming, with a strong focus on mechanics and CAD design. This role includes designing, optimising and maintaining the mechanical systems and equipment essential for efficient farm operations.
Responsibilities
Design, install and optimise mechanical systems, including autonomous machines, bespoke food processing and handling equipment, and conveyor lines.
Work with R&D in developing cutting-edge autonomous vertical farm machines.
Ensure systems align with operational requirements and sustainability goals.
Perform regular inspections and maintenance to prevent downtime.
Present proposed innovative solutions to reduce downtime, risk, energy consumption and operational costs.
Present proposed implementations of automation and mechanisation strategies to enhance productivity.
Work closely with the assembly team to ensure designs are fit for purpose and provide optimal efficiencies.
Ensure all mechanical systems comply with safety, environmental and food production standards.
Assist in risk assessments and safety evaluations for new and existing systems.
ABOUT YOU
The successful candidate will have a qualification in Mechanical Engineering and 3+ years engineering experience in complex mechanical assemblies in a food automation environment.

Well developed time management skills, effectively organising and prioritising workloads.
Understanding machine hygienics, Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA), material properties, structural integrity and thermal dynamics.
Meticulous attention to detail.
Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, processes and challenges in an innovative industry.
Clear and concise communication of technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Personal and professional integrity.
Sound independent judgement.
Strong technical knowledge.
Genuine interest in the organisation and its business.
High level of interpersonal skills, including the ability to work within a team.
Mechanical Engineering qualification.
3+ years engineering experience in food automation environment (preferably).
High level of proficiency in CAD/CAE, 3D modelling and Autodesk Inventor.
