About the role

This position is with North West Hospital and Health Service (HHS). It involves working in unique locations within friendly communities, with regional, rural and remote incentives. This is a temporary full time position available for 18 months. The role is responsible for providing, under supervision, a range of health services that assist in the prevention, early detection and management of health problems and to work with the community to address health issues in partnership with community and other government departments. The aim is to support the facilitation and provision of quality and fiscally responsible services consistent with contemporary standards and evidence-informed practice, and to excel in patient safety through active contribution to sound clinical governance.

Responsibilities

- Provide, under supervision, a range of health services to assist in prevention, early detection and management of health problems.
- Work with the community to address health issues in partnership with community and other government departments.
- Support delivery of quality, fiscally responsible services aligned with contemporary standards and evidence-informed practice.
- Contribute to patient safety and clinical governance frameworks.

Requirements

- To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
- Temporary full-time employment at the HWF1 classification for up to 18 months, during which time they will be required to complete a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice).
- C Class Motor Vehicle Licence.
- Pre-employment screening including Criminal History checks.
- VPD risk role; may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, and Tuberculosis.
- Probation period may apply.

Salary and benefits

- Base grade salary ranges between $63,186 and $72,194 per annum (HWF1).
- Tax savings through salary sacrificing options are available.
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution.
- Annual and Sick leave accrual.

Location and context

Normanton is located on the banks of the Norman River, approximately 498 km from Mount Isa along the Matilda Way. Normanton is the region’s government and administrative centre for the Carpentaria Shrine, which includes Karumba. Primary industries are a mainstay of the area, along with tourism. The Traditional Custodians of the Normanton area are the Gkuthaarn, Kukatj, and Kurtijar peoples.
