About the Position
We are seeking an experienced Hay Buyer to source hay and straw from new and existing growers. This is a permanent, full-time position reporting to the General Manager of Logistics & Acquisition. You will ensure that sufficient product of acceptable grade and quality is purchased in compliance with the Company's grading system to meet plant capacities and customer requirements.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
* Maintain existing grower relationships and develop new grower relationships to build a sustainable network of suppliers to enable Narrogin Hay to provide a quality product to its export markets.
* Manage, coordinate and document the ARGT and feed testing processes for respective growers.
* Ensure all contracts are negotiated and completed in accordance with the Procurement Policy, grading system and pricing guidance.
* Work with growers to ensure crops are managed to optimise quality and quantity, and to mitigate the risk of contamination or other quality excursions.
* Ensure inventory, grading and quality data including hay characteristics is maintained.
* Maintain reporting procedures to keep Management informed of grower sentiment and competitor activity throughout the year.
To be successful in this role you will have:
* A keen interest in and sound knowledge of the hay and straw industry is essential.
* A proven track record of success in a similar role within procurement or other related field.
* The ability to properly recognize and grade products is highly advantageous.
* Strong people skills and the ability to manage and influence growers.
* A tertiary qualification in a Procurement and/or other related Business field is advantageous.
* A background in contracts management is favourable.
