War Memorial Hospital - Hospital Assistants Grade 2 - Food Services/Environmental Services
War Memorial Hospital (WMH) is a 3rd Schedule Aged Rehabilitation hospital, situated in Waverley, owned and operated by Uniting and part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). Services comprise 24-hour inpatient care, Monday-to-Friday outpatient departments, iREAP Day Rehabilitation program and several specialist community teams including Transitional Aged Care, Geriatric Flying Squad, Young Onset Dementia, and a day centre programme. It is set within beautiful tranquil grounds and is a well-supported team environment.
Responsibilities
Food Services
: The Hospital Assistant is responsible for the receipt, preparation, serving and clearing of food to aged-care rehabilitation patients. The role also involves food preparation for hospital functions and for sale and service at the WMH Kiosk on site. The assistant works within the hospital kitchen environment and also within the hospital kiosk as required, providing a high level of customer service that is courteous, timely and safe.
Environmental Services
: The role is responsible for meeting hospital campus cleaning, linen and waste requirements during daytime hours, covering both clinical and non-clinical areas. Duties include basic hospital portering and adherence to infection control principles.
All Hospital Assistants have direct patient contact and work closely with nursing, allied health and support staff. The role is well supported by the Hotel Services Manager.
Work Schedule
Multiple positions are available for casual hours across a 7-day rotating roster. These are casual roles; candidates should address the selection criteria individually in their application.
Qualifications & Selection Criteria
Demonstrated experience as a Hospital Assistant or similar position within a Food or Environmental Services area.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience of food safety, handling and hygiene procedures with relevant certificate or willingness to attain same.
Proven interpersonal, written, electronic and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with patients, visitors and other staff across all levels in the Hospital and computer skills relevant to the role and mandatory training requirements.
Demonstrated ability to work well supervised, within a team and also independently following schedules and instructions.
Previous experience or desire to work in an aged care environment.
Knowledge and experience or willingness to learn in a retail food service environment.
Awareness of Work Health Safety and Infection Control principles.
