This is a unique role working with a group of fantastic physicians who appreciate a can-do attitude, welcome new ideas, and require proactive responsiveness. It also offers a great opportunity to gain experience and develop skills in dermatology while making a significant impact on the health of Australian rural communities. You will engage with highly appreciative patients and experience heartland Australia at a very local level.
The Skin Cancer Doctor (TSCD) is a mobile travelling skin check and surgical service operating hospital-based skin cancer clinics throughout NSW & QLD. TSCD visits locations on a monthly basis during a 3-5 day travelling clinic. You will travel with a Skin Cancer Doctor assisting with all aspects of clinic workflow. The right candidate will receive additional training in giving local anaesthetic, performing minor biopsy procedures, diathermy, excision, and suturing. Clinics are organized on a flexible schedule, approximately one clinic per month, making this role ideal for a casual RN who appreciates flexibility and adventure.
We are seeking nurses with excellent dermatology care experience, and also nurses with Dermoscopy experience who can confidently perform full body skin checks under skin cancer doctor supervision.
The ideal candidate will:
* Be confident and have outstanding patient communication skills
* Be able to work effectively in a mobile clinic setting, overcoming problems and ensuring smooth clinic performance
* Be adaptable to constant changes in clinic environments and process optimization
* Reside in Sydney with access to a domestic airport
* Be able to travel away from home for up to 5 days per month
Our locations are typically small towns with limited access to quality healthcare. Therefore, a professional attitude and respect for patient privacy and confidentiality are essential.
Responsibilities
* Patient check-in, history taking, surgical assistance, wound care discussion, and patient check-out including TYRO billing. Training will be provided, but a flexible mindset and eagerness to learn are essential. Candidates with experience in regional towns will adapt quickly.
* Additional duties include checking patients in and out, processing appointment fees (Best Practice Software), ensuring patient comfort, complying with WHS policies, maintaining care quality standards, managing clinic setup and pack-down, patient education, and handovers to medical staff.
Requirements include:
* Current unrestricted AHPRA nursing registration
* Current National Police Check and Working with Children Check (willing to obtain)
* Evidence of 2021 Influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations (willing to obtain)
* Current Professional Indemnity Insurance
* Membership or willingness to join a nationwide nursing union for interstate travel
Experience in Dermoscopy and rural health sectors is highly encouraged.
