We are now seeking skilled and motivated Fruit Farm Workers to join our team and contribute to the continued success of our operations. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Patrolling, inspecting and reporting on the condition of banana plantations, including monitoring plant health and bunch development, and reporting any signs of pests or disease. Planting banana suckers, corms and tissue-cultured plantlets using hand tools and farm machinery. Undertaking soil preparation, cultivation and plant maintenance duties such as desuckering (removing excess suckers and selecting the follower), deleafing (removing dead and diseased leaves), weeding and hoeing around banana mats. Spraying banana plants with pesticides, fungicides and herbicides to control weed growth, insect pests and fungal diseases. Operating water and irrigation systems to support banana growth. Propping and guying banana plants to support heavy fruit bunches and prevent toppling, and erecting protective structures and fences. Covering/bagging bunches with bunch covers, and harvesting banana bunches at the correct maturity according to set requirements, discarding damaged, rotting or overripe fruit. Dehandling, washing, grading, sorting, clustering and packing bananas into cartons and loading them into transporters. Maintaining and cleaning farming infrastructure and equipment such as packing sheds, fences, plant, and water supply and irrigation systems, and following on-farm biosecurity and hygiene protocols. Operating and maintaining general farm machinery and machinery to cultivate, fertilise, spray and harvest banana produce. 11. Operating data collection and farm technology systems About you: · At least one year of proven experience in relevant field. · Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. · Willingness to operate and assist with general farm machinery, irrigation systems and hand tools, with training provided. · A basic understanding of safe work practices, with full WHS training provided on site.
