Primary objective
Provide technical advice and reports on the interpretation of the relevant legislation, National Construction Code and
Australian Standards with regards to specific building and plumbing compliance issues to achieve a reasonable level of
structural, fire, safety, health and amenity.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Use technical experience and diverse resources to analyse information in order to review and prepare detailed technical
reports in response to potential non-compliance with the Building Act 1993 and Regulations, the National Construction
Code, associated standards and Code of Practice for Wastewater Management.
1. Provide impartial and specialised technical advice on building control standards, certification compliance and Building
Act and Regulations to developers, industry, professionals, government departments, the general public and all relevant
stakeholders.
1. Conduct onsite inspections in order to assess potential non-compliance with the Building Act and Regulations, the
National Construction Code and associated standards.
1. Support the Director of Building Control in the development and revision of Australian Standards, National Construction
Code and relevant technical forums.
1. Contribute to the continuous review and development of policy and procedures, new services and products as it affects
building control.
1. Use the Integrated Land Information System (ILIS), electronic document filing systems and other relevant Government
systems to provide accurate records management and reporting.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent; or relevant experience in a field of technical
work closely related to the duties of the position.
2. Sound knowledge and understanding of building legislation processes and procedures, the National Construction Code
and associated standards.
3. Sound written and oral communication skills and the ability to apply these when dealing with other agencies, industry,
individuals and community groups.
1. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and flexibly as a team member and maintain positive collaborative working
relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
5. Sound organisational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to determine workload priorities with
minimal supervision in order to meet stringent deadlines.
1. Proficiency in the use of various computer software packages including Excel, Access and Word, HP Records Manager
(TRM) and NTLIS or similar.
7. Hold a current 'C' class NT Driver's Licence or the ability to obtain a Driver's Licence.
