MSF Sugar is currently inviting applications for the position of Senior Accountant to join the team on a full-time permanent basis. This fantastic opportunity is located at our Corporate Head Office in Gordonvale, which is approximately 20km south of Cairns.
As a Senior Accountant, you will lead key aspects of financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, and performance analysis. You will work closely with the Finance Manager to deliver accurate, timely, and meaningful financial insights to support business strategy and decision-making. You will also be a mentor to junior team members and play a key role in strengthening financial processes across the business.
The Responsibilities
* Oversee the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements
* Consolidation of monthly, annual and quarterly reports
* Consolidation of budgeting and provide strategic support to the finance team
* Manage day-to-day financial operations, ensuring process are aligned with best practice
* Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax legislation, and internal controls
* Supervise and mentor junior finance staff, supporting development and performance
* Analyse financial trends and provide recommendations to executive management
* Manage and monitor cash flow, funding requirements, and treasury activities
* Oversee the cane pay process to ensure accuracy, transparency and timely payment.
* Prepare and review BAS, GST, FBT, and other tax obligations
* Liaise with auditors, external advisors, and internal stakeholders
The ideal candidate will have:
* A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
* CPA or CA qualification
* Minimum 5 years' experience in a senior accounting or financial reporting role
* Strong technical knowledge of Australian accounting standards and tax compliance
* Advanced proficiency in financial systems and MS Excel
* Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills
* A proactive mindset with the ability to drive process improvement and efficiency
* Experience in agribusiness or a similar industry
