General Manager – Mechanical Services Construction

The Opportunity
A national mechanical services contractor with a long track record delivering complex HVAC projects across Australia is seeking a General Manager to lead their Western Australian construction division.
This role sits at the centre of the business – responsible for project delivery, financial performance, team leadership and securing future work.
You will oversee the delivery of commercial HVAC projects across the state while building strong relationships with builders, consultants and clients to support ongoing growth.
This is a hands‐on leadership role with significant influence over the direction and performance of the WA business.
The Role
Reporting to the Executive General Manager – Construction, you will be responsible for leading the state construction division and ensuring projects are delivered safely, profitably and to a high standard.
You will oversee the full lifecycle of projects – from securing work through to construction delivery and client handover.
The role also includes oversight of the service division, ensuring strong long‐term client relationships and recurring revenue.
You will also work closely with estimating, finance, drafting and executive leadership to ensure the business achieves its strategic objectives.
Key Areas of Responsibility
* Lead the Western Australian construction division
* Contribute to the strategic direction and growth of the business
* Build a strong and collaborative leadership culture across project teams
Project Delivery
* Oversee the successful delivery of commercial HVAC construction projects
* Ensure projects meet programme, financial and quality targets
* Provide leadership and support to Project Managers across multiple projects
* Manage divisional budgets and project financial outcomes
* Monitor cost‐to‐complete forecasting and overall project profitability
* Implement strong financial discipline across the construction portfolio
Winning New Projects
* Build relationships with builders, consultants and developers
* Support tendering and early contractor engagement processes
* Identify opportunities to expand the company's project pipeline
* Lead and develop a team of project managers, engineers and technical staff
* Drive recruitment, retention and development of key personnel
* Foster a culture focused on performance, accountability and collaboration
Client Relationships
* Act as a senior point of contact for major clients and stakeholders
* Ensure projects are delivered to a high standard that strengthens long‐term partnerships
Safety & Compliance
* Champion a strong safety culture across all construction operations
* Ensure compliance with industry regulations, standards and company processes
This Role Is Likely Suited To Someone Who:
* Has 15+ years in mechanical services construction
* Has led multiple HVAC project teams or a state operations in the WA market
* Is currently a Construction Manager, Operations Manager, or State Manager within a mechanical contractor
* Understands the commercial side of projects – margins, forecasting, and project financial performance
* Has strong relationships within the WA commercial construction market
