Purpose of the Position

The Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Specialist plays a critical role in delivering culturally appropriate, holistic, trauma-informed, and responsive services to support families affected by domestic and family violence. The primary focus of the role is to strengthen safe engagement practices and enhance service delivery strategies in relation to DFV. Working collaboratively with the Intensive Family Support (IFS) Service team, the DFV Specialist will help embed a strong DFV lens across all aspects of service delivery. This includes building staff capability through increased awareness and knowledge, and ensuring that clients receive timely, appropriate, and effective support tailored to their individual experience of domestic and family violence.

Responsibilities and Duties

* Actively screen and assess incoming referrals for indicators of DFV and ensure risk assessments are completed and safety plans developed when DFV is identified.
* Provide colleague with advice on safety planning including safe engagement and risk management strategies for families affected by domestic and family violence.
* Contribute to and review case plans for implementation of family violence safety plans and therapeutic interventions.
* Participate in home visits where appropriate and work jointly with IFS colleagues to ensure support needs of the family are met.
* Provide specialist advice to IFS staff during case consultations, collaborative meetings, and stakeholder discussions.
* Remain up to date with best practice initiatives/models and amendments to key legislation/policy that directly relate to the DFV sector, providing in-house training and learning opportunities to IFS caseworkers, including the provision of information and resources, for distribution to clients and community.
* Provide mentorship to IFS staff in conducting coordinated community responses to cases of DFV, including the identification and action of external referrals to local DFV support agencies, and specialist interventions.
* Participate in local family violence networks and maximize service capability in partnership with local domestic and family violence services.
* Develop formal partnerships to enhance service delivery and develop and maintain referral pathways to specialist family violence support services.
* Contribute to the collation of relevant data and evidence of service delivery in line with the scheduled reporting requirements.
* Work inside the IFS case management framework and service delivery model, ensuring high quality and consistent support to clients towards achieving outcomes.
* Participate and contribute to the organisation’s compliance obligations under the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and Human Services Quality Standards (HSQS).
* At all times work within CQID’s Workplace Health & Safety Policies and Procedures.
* Other responsibilities as directed by Team Leader.

Qualifications and experience

Essential

* Holds a current C Class Queensland Driver's Licence
* Current Working with Children Check, also known as a Blue Card
* Holds or is willing to obtain a First Aid and CPR Certificate
* A tertiary degree in a relevant discipline (Human Services) is essential
* Demonstrated knowledge of family and domestic violence

Desirable

* Experience in leading a team to achieve service performance outcomes together
* Demonstrated understanding of the Statutory system/child Protection, including Child Protection Act 1999 and Human Rights Act 2019
* Experience in providing successful service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
* Sound understanding, and demonstrated experience in applying therapeutic practices, and evaluation of DFV cases to make professional judgements and recommendations
* Demonstrated experience and sound knowledge working within the child and family services

Skills and attributes

* Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver timely outcomes with limited supervision
* Competent in use of Microsoft Office software
* Physical ability to undertake job responsibilities
* Ability to develop and maintain client documentation to a high standard
* Self-starter, motivated and able to self-manage work tasks
* Emotional intelligence, teamwork and leadership
* Excellent communication skills, and ability to negotiate, advocate and support conflict resolution in high stress environments

Desirable

* Experience in developing and managing case plans
* Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage preferred
* High level of professionalism, dedication, and enthusiasm
