The Opportunity
Ashurst's Corporate Insurance team are seeking a lawyer with 1 year or more post-qualification experience to join our leading corporate insurance team in Sydney. Working nationally as well as closely with our international partner network, you'll be able to get involved in a broad range of matters with some of our large Australian and global clients.
This role will work closely with our Partner, Rehana Box, and the wider Corporate Insurance team on a range of front-end corporate insurance matters including advising on the establishment of Australian-incorporated insurers operations as well as the acquisitions and divestments of insurers. You will also be involved in the design and implementation of insurance policies and their related documentation and will assist in advising other practice groups on insurance-related matters as necessary.
Recent matters we have advised on include:
* Accident And Health Insurance:on the correct classification of consumer credit insurance policies manufactured for Allianz and CGU as life or general insurance policies including the application s9(2) of the Life Insurance Act to master policies.
* AIA Group:on its acquisition of 100% of CBA's life insurance businesses in Australia (CommInsure Life) and New Zealand (Sovereign) for A$3.8 billion.
* Sydney Metro: on insurances for the Sydney Metro project including excavation risks.

About you
Our ideal candidate will have:
* A Bachelor of Laws and admission as a Solicitor in a State or Territory of Australia;
* 1+ years' experience working in a law firm on front-end insurance matters;
* Familiarity with the Insurance Act 1973 (Cth), Life Insurance Act 1995 (Cth), Insurance Contracts Act 1984 (Cth) and the regulation of insurers and insurance intermediaries under the Corporation Act Chapter is highly advantageous;
* A passion for the insurance industry and a focus on developing their career as a corporate insurance lawyer;
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
* Superior drafting ability;
* A commercial approach and an ability to negotiate contracts;
* Strong attention to detail with well-developed analytical skills; and
* An ability to be team-focused and also work independently.
