The Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) is a Commonwealth Government financier, providing financial support to advance the development of infrastructure projects in northern Australia and the Indian Ocean Territories. We help grow economies and populations and encourage private sector investment across a range of sectors including resources, agriculture and water, energy, financing partnerships, social infrastructure, and transport and logistics. We support projects that deliver public benefit to the north, through new jobs, regional income, business for local suppliers and Indigenous outcomes across northern Australia. NAIF has a $7 billion allocation of funds and has committed over $4.3 billion to support 32 projects in Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer, this position works closely with various business units across the organisation, particularly with our Operations, Portfolio Management and Investment teams.
With experience gained from your time within a top or mid‐tier firm or corporate in the finance sector, this role will provide you with the opportunity to take that next step in your career.

NAIF has a strong preference to recruit roles based in Northern Australia, reflecting our purpose and the communities we serve. This role is ideally located in Cairns, Darwin, Townsville or Perth, with some flexibility considered depending on business needs.
Responsibilities
* Provide procurement support and contract review to the Operations team.
* Work closely with the Investment team's deal team and Director, Legal on the deal team, to provide legal advice on the structuring of transactions and compliance with the NAIF Act and Investment Mandate.
* Assist the Investment team to ensure all condition precedents to reaching contractual and financial close are closely monitored and are satisfied in a timely manner.
* Assist the Portfolio Management team after they have reached financial close and advise on and document waivers, consent requests and restructure proposals.
* Assist the Director, Legal with the review of investment and related papers for the Investment Review Group and NAIF Board consideration, to ensure all legal and other requirements imposed on NAIF have been satisfied.
* Provide preliminary advice to Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer and Director, Legal on, and analysis of, relevant legislative, and regulatory matters as required including in respect of NAIF's mandate, the Commonwealth Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act and other applicable legislation and policies applicable to NAIF and/or the northern Australian jurisdictions.
* Assist the Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer and Director, Legal to strengthen existing and build new relationships with relevant Commonwealth and State Government Departments and external legal counsels, including the Australian Government Solicitor, and Corporate Commonwealth Entities Legal Network.
About you
You are looking to build on your confidence gained through graduating into a qualified role within a top or mid‐tier firm or corporate and now after a few years of learning the ropes, it's time to stretch yourself for that next stage in your career.
You understand and have experience within the Australian finance market, developed great drafting skills and attention to detail and know the basics of taking security and the varying interests of creditors. You may have also started to specialise in corporate, asset or project finance and be looking to join a purpose‐led organisation.
Your skills and experience
* Collaborative, supportive and positive mindset that can drive outcomes focused solutions.
* Strong drafting, negotiation and analytical skills to recommend sound commercially orientated decisions with minimal supervision and maturity to challenge and elevate when required.
* Relevant tertiary qualification and admitted as a solicitor in any Australian jurisdiction.
* Experience to date has been obtained through banking and finance sectors, preferably including corporate, project, asset or property finance experience.
* Experience or exposure to the government sector with knowledge of relevant Government policies, systems and procedures would be an advantage.
* Strong interpersonal skills to be able to build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders to achieve business outcomes.
* Proven ability to work autonomously.
* Excellent communication skills, with demonstrated experience communicating complex information to a range of audiences verbally and/or in the form of high‐quality, concise reports and briefs.
