Location
It was ****, Mr. Alfred John Bush had just finished serving his apprenticeship with Marshall & Sons in Broken Hill.
He opened his first butcher shop in ****.
By **** he owned 12 shops, in that year he moved his family to Homebush and established the wholesale butchery business of AJ Bush & Sons.
With Alfred Bush retiring in ****, he handed over control to his four sons, who operated the family business under a partnership agreement.
Today the Company's retail division trades as 'Bush's Fresh Meats' – a chain of butcher shops from its original office on Parramatta Road, Homebush.
The Company remains owned and operated by the Bush family.
What's Involved
Preparing Meat – cutting meat from bones, trimming fat, and preparing it for display or customer orders.
Operating Equipment – using meat grinders, saws and other butchery tools.
Quality Control – inspecting meat for quality and ensuring it meets standards.
Customer Service – assisting customers with their purchases, providing advice on cuts and cooking methods, and handling transactions.
Maintaining the Work Area – keeping the butchery clean and organized, and ensuring all equipment is sanitized.
Learning and Development – participating in training programmes and shadowing qualified butchers to develop essential skills.
Producing Smallgoods – learning to make items like sausages, pies and other meat-based products.
Food Safety – ensuring food safety regulations and hygiene standards are maintained.
Teamwork – collaborating with other staff to ensure a smooth workflow.
Qualifications
To suit this role you will be eager, reliable and have a passion for all things meat.
You will take pride in your presentation, have good communication skills and seek out opportunities to learn in your everyday duties.
