Here with the Southern Downs Regional Council, we have two (2) positions available in our small but effective Concreting Team:
* Concrete Works Ganger; and
* Concreting Works Labourer.
Both positions perform general labouring, operational and maintenance tasks as well as any other tasks requested by the supervisor. Additionally, the Works Ganger position acts as a team leader to supervise the daily tasks and ensure everyone's safety. More details about these positions are detailed below.
Works Ganger
Pay Level:$2,533.42 to $2,661.08 per fortnight (Level 5 - 7), plus 12% superannuation and 17.5% annual leave loading
In addition to the above pay rate, you will receive payment of the following current applicable allowance:
* Construction Allowance - $80.90 per fortnight; and
* Leading Hand Allowance - $76.90 per fortnight
In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience.
Works Labourer
Pay Level:$2, $2,473.30 per fortnight (Level 2 - 3), plus 12% superannuation and 17.5% annual leave loading
In addition to the above pay rate, you will receive payment of the following current applicable allowance:
* Construction Allowance - $80.90 per fortnight
In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience

About the Department
The Works Department falls within the Infrastructure, Assets and Projects Directorate to deliver essential services to the community by planning, designing, constructing and maintaining roads, bridges, culverts, stormwater infrastructure, kerb and channel, footpaths and street lighting. In addition, the Works department provides services to the Department of Transport and Main Roads under contract to maintain sections of the state-controlled road network within Southern Downs. The department further governs activities conducted by members of the community, such as the construction of private driveway accesses.
Working within the SDRC Works Department will offer you the satisfaction of directly delivering infrastructure services for the Southern Downs community.

* WORKS GANGER
* Plan and schedule work and complete within agreed timeframes and costs with Supervisors;
* Accurately interpret drawings and specifications;
* Perform general labouring and operation of plant for which you are licenced; and
* Supervise and provide leadership of the daily work of the crew while establishing and maintaining an environment which encourages teamwork and collaboration.
* WORKS LABOURER
* Complete concreting work;
* Operate and maintain a variety of plant, including hand-held power tools and machinery; and
* Prepare worksites prior to commencement and clean up following completion of works.
What You Will Need
To be considered for this role, you will need:
* The legal right to live and work in Australia
* WORKS GANGER
* Mandatory Position Requirements
o Preparedness to work flexible hours outside the scope of normal business hours (early mornings, evenings and/or Saturday); and
o Preparedness to work 24-hours on-call on a rotational basis, weekends and flexible hours.
* Required Licences & Qualifications
o A current certificate for Working in Proximity to Traffic Awareness Parts 1 & 2, or have the ability to obtain before or during commencement;
o A Class C (Car) licence; and
o An Occupational Health and Safety Construction Induction Card ("White Card"), or the ability to obtain before commencement.
* Previous extensive experience in road maintenance, construction or concrete works as appropriate to the designated work area of the role
* Demonstrated extensive experience as a team leader with the demonstrated leadership skills and ability to coordinate and manage staff to complete daily jobs
* WORKS LABOURER
* Required Licences & Qualifications
o A current certificate for Working in Proximity to Traffic Awareness Parts 1 & 2, or have the ability to obtain before or during commencement;
o A Class C (Car) licence; and
o An Occupational Health and Safety Construction Induction Card ("White Card"), or the ability to obtain before commencement.
* General labouring skills, including recent experience undertaking manual handling, labouring and work in the outdoors for extended periods
* Sound literacy, numeracy and problem-solving skills, including the ability to complete documentation in the workplace
* Knowledge of construction and maintenance techniques and operational procedures
* To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description (Works Ganger | Works Labourer).
