$150,000 - $200,000 - Depending on experience
A leading Tier 1 mechanical contractor is looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to strengthen its in‐house engineering capability across major projects in NSW.
The business delivers complex mechanical projects across data centres, commercial high‐rise, healthcare, defence, industrial and infrastructure developments with mechanical packages up to $60 million. With a strong forward pipeline, the engineering team is expanding to support early‐stage design, detailed engineering and technical leadership across multiple major projects.
The role
This is very much a design‐led position sitting within the central engineering team rather than site delivery.
You'll be involved from early concept and system selection through to detailed design and coordinated documentation, working closely with consultants, BIM teams and internal project stakeholders to develop practical, buildable HVAC solutions.
Day to day, that looks like
* Developing and refining mechanical / HVAC designs
* Running calculations and system sizing
* Coordinating layouts and plant space with BIM / Revit teams
* Reviewing drawings and technical details before issueWorking through design challenges with consultants and project teams
* Inputting into equipment selection and specifications
* Providing technical support to projects when required
It's a role for someone who enjoys the engineering side, solving design problems, improving systems and seeing solutions carried through into real projects.
The type of engineer they're looking for
You're likely a senior building services mechanical design engineer who enjoys technically complex HVAC work and wants to sit closer to where projects actually get built.
You are likely:
* Degree‐qualified in Mechanical Engineering
* Around 8+ years in HVAC / building services design
* From a consulting or contractor design background
* Strong in calculations, layouts and documentation
* Experienced on large commercial, healthcare or mission‐critical projects
* Comfortable working in coordinated BIM environments
* Practical in your thinking, not just theoretical
Engineers in consulting who want greater exposure to contractor‐led design and real project outcomes will be particularly well suited.
Why consider it
* Major technically complex HVAC projects
* Genuine design ownership within a Tier 1 contractor
* Exposure across multiple sectors including data centres
* Long‐term pathway into senior engineering leadership
If you're a senior mechanical design engineer who enjoys technically challenging projects and wants to work within a contractor that genuinely values engineering, this is worth a confidential conversation.
