The role
We're seeking an experienced Trainer & Assessor to support operational readiness across the production mining fleet. This is a hands-on site-based role focused on VOC assessments, verification of competency, refresher training and coaching to ensure operators are safe, compliant and productive across multiple units.
You'll work closely with Supervisors, Leading Hands and HSE to build capability, improve standards and maintain accurate training/VOC records.
Fleet / equipment scope
Assessments and coaching will cover a mixed production fleet including (but not limited to):
* Haul Trucks: Komatsu 730E/785, CAT 777
* Loaders: CAT 980M
* Graders: CAT 16M
* Dozers: CAT D10 / D11
* Excavators: Komatsu PC1250
Key responsibilities
* Conduct VOC assessments for new starters, role changes, cross-skilling and refresher requirements.
* Deliver on-the-job coaching to lift operator performance (payload, cycle time, spotting, tipping, road rules).
* Support compliance to site standards: traffic management, seatbelts, windrows, berms, ROM presentation, dumping and spotting.
* Verify competency for high-risk tasks and ensure operators meet minimum standards before independent operation.
* Maintain training documentation: VOC checklists, training plans, logbooks, evidence packs and sign-offs.
* Identify capability gaps and implement targeted interventions with Supervisors/Leading Hands.
* Assist in incident learnings: provide coaching following events and contribute to corrective actions (as required).
* Coordinate with Maintenance/Production to schedule assessments without impacting production targets.
* Promote a positive safety culture through field engagement, mentoring and consistent standards.
What you'll bring
* Demonstrated experience as a Trainer & Assessor in open pit production mining (iron ore preferred).
* Strong operational background on multiple units (trucks/dozers/loaders/graders/excavators).
* TAE40116 (or current equivalent) – highly regarded / preferred for formal training delivery.
* Proven competency in conducting VOC assessments to site standards with solid documentation discipline.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder skills – able to coach firmly but fairly.
* Current C Class licence, able to pass PEM & D&A, FIFO-ready from Perth.
Highly regarded: S1/S2/S3, ICAM awareness, fatigue management knowledge, LMS/CMMS exposure, prior site training coordinator support.
