Geologist | Geoscientist | Permanent Role
About the Role - Salary $75k-$85k + Super
ALS Coal in Richlands is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Geologist to join our team. This hands‑on position includes both field and laboratory responsibilities, supporting coal seam gas assessment projects. You'll gain valuable practical experience across a broad range of geological tasks while contributing to key operations in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake field‑based geological activities, including core and cuttings sampling, gas desorption analysis, and gas composition sampling
* Complete detailed core and cuttings logging, data entry, and drill hole data compilation
* Prepare final geological logs and gas desorption reports
* Conduct laboratory gas desorption testing, including equipment calibration and routine maintenance
* Assist with mobilisation and demobilisation of teams and equipment to and from site
* Participate in rig‑up and rig‑down of field equipment
* Maintain confidentiality across all projects and company operations
Requirements
* Willingness to work flexible hours, including extended shifts (12‑14 hours), weekends, public holidays, and travel (local and interstate)
* Ability to work in varying field conditions and climates
* Tertiary qualifications in Geology or Science or similar discipline
* Strong attention to detail and a proactive, hands‑on work ethic
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team
* Experience collecting and analysing desorbing gas from coal core
* High‑level analytical skills with strong attention to detail
* Experience working on a drill rig is advantageous
* Pre‑employment medical required
