The Fisheries Research & Development Corporation (FRDC) is currently seeking a passionate and driven Finance Manager (Accountant) to join its dynamic team. This position will be located at the FRDC office in Canberra or Adelaide. This is a unique opportunity to lead and support financial operations in a collaborative and innovative environment.

The FRDC is a co-funded partnership between its two stakeholders, the Australian Government and the fishing industry. The FRDC's role is to plan and invest in fisheries research, development and extension (RD&E) activities in Australia. This includes providing leadership and coordination of the monitoring, evaluating and reporting on RD&E activities, facilitating dissemination, extension and commercialisation.

Primary objective of the role

Reporting to the General Manager, Finance and Business, the Finance Manager plays a key role in managing FRDC's finance functions, including budgeting, financial statements, compliance, and governance reporting and support. You'll be responsible for preparing financial statements and reporting, responding to requests for reports, information and administration, and ensuring efficient business operations.

Key Responsibilities

* Manage weekly EFT, credit card, asset processes
* Governance and compliance functions.
* Prepare and review end-of-month financial statements, ensuring compliance with BAS, FBT, and GST obligations.
* Monitor outstanding income and reconcile project funding.
* Prepare budgets, cash flow forecasts, and provide financial analysis and advice to management.
* Lead and mentor direct reports, ensuring effective finance function delivery.
* Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including supporting internal and external audits.
* Collaborate with ICT to ensure systems are maintained and improved.
* Develop and maintain relationships across the fishing industry, government, and community stakeholders relevant to the role.
* Contribute to cross-functional teams and drive organisational agility and continuous improvement.
* Teamwork – working cooperatively across organisational boundaries to achieve shared goals.

Qualifications

* CPA or CA qualification must be held at the time of application.
* At least 5 years' experience in a Senior Financial Management role.

* Self-motivated and enthusiastic

* Knowledge of the Commonwealth Government processes is highly desirable.
* Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, etc) and database skills.

* Exceptional attention to detail, high level of accuracy and, analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills.

* Excellent organisational, effective planning and communication skills.
* Proven stakeholder engagement and team leadership abilities.
* Flexible, adaptable, and collaborative with a focus on stakeholder satisfaction and organisational improvement.

* Commitment to upholding high standards of conduct, integrity, and workplace wellbeing.

Additional Requirements

* Baseline security vetting (sponsored by FRDC) is required for this position.
