Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.Base pay rangeA$125.00/hr - A$140.00/hrDirect message the job poster from Balance Recruitment and Balance ConsultingFederal Government Agency - Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane or Canberra basedInitial 12 month contract - with up to 24 months extensionAustralian Citizen with ability to obtain NV1 Security ClearanceRole OverviewA Federal Government Agency is seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to manage monitoring, installation, configuration, administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of on-premises Red Hat OpenShift clusters, especially within government services.The candidate will support and troubleshoot OpenShift environments, automate solutions, lead cloud projects, mentor junior staff, and work effectively within a complex team environment.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesDesign, deploy, manage, and troubleshoot OpenShift or other Kubernetes clusters, ensuring high availability, reliability, and scalability.Assist developers with automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications using OpenShift, GitOps, and CI/CD pipelines.Manage cluster operations, resource allocation, configuration, and capacity planning for optimal performance.Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions with tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Helm.Implement security best practices, including vulnerability scanning and role-based access control.Lead technical teams, mentor junior engineers, and oversee project timelines.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth operations aligned with business goals.Maintain documentation and share knowledge actively.On-call duties and out-of-hours support may occasionally be required.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in relevant field or 5+ years of experience in large-scale ICT environments, including 3+ years in Kubernetes environments.At least 5+ years of experience in system administration, including OpenShift/Kubernetes cluster management.Experience with networking, security, storage, and troubleshooting within containerized environments.Experience in regulated environments with standards like ISM and Essential 8.Mandatory CertificationsRed Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration or equivalent, or willingness to obtain within 3-6 months.Desirable Skills and CertificationsCloud platform certifications (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), CKA, or willingness to obtain within 3-6 months.
