The role
Hybrid Infrastructure Engineer
Full‐time, max‐term contract to March 2027. WaterNSW seeks an experienced Hybrid Infrastructure Engineer to own a complex, enterprise environment spanning on‐prem and cloud.
What you'll do
- Take hands‐on ownership of WaterNSW's hybrid infrastructure across on‐prem and cloud, ensuring high availability, performance, and resilience across virtualisation, storage, backup, and core Windows services.
- Play a key role in critical uplift projects, including VMware optimisation and transition initiatives (e.g. hypervisor evolution, backup modernisation), helping shape the future state of infrastructure platforms.
- Work closely with Cyber teams to implement monthly patching, vulnerability remediation, and reporting, while actively contributing to incident response and on‐call support to protect critical infrastructure.
- Provide deep technical support across core technologies including VMware, Citrix, Active Directory, Exchange and backup platforms—troubleshooting complex issues and ensuring seamless service continuity.
- Identify opportunities to enhance performance, automation and cost efficiency through Infrastructure‐as‐Code, DevOps practices, and ongoing optimisation of systems, standards and processes.
What we are looking for
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
- ITIL Foundation certification (or equivalent experience working within ITIL environments).
- Proven experience administering and optimising VMware environments (ESXi, vSphere), with exposure to platform evolution, migrations, or hyperconverged infrastructure.
- Solid experience across Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange (on‐prem and M365), and Citrix, with the ability to manage identity and core services in a hybrid environment.
- Experience working alongside Cyber teams on patching, vulnerability remediation, and compliance, with the ability to operate within structured governance and reporting frameworks.
- Able to partner effectively with infrastructure, cloud, cyber teams and vendors, contributing to structured change and delivery outcomes.
Our Perks and Benefits
- Work a 9‐day fortnight at full pay on the Enterprise Agreement.
- Up to 16 weeks paid parental leave.
- Fertility leave.
- Professional development and educational assistance.
- Attractive remuneration starting from $137,125 + 12% superannuation.
- Flexible working arrangements.
- And so much more.
