The Don River Railway (DRR), operated by The Van Diemen Light Railway Society Inc., is a beloved heritage railway and a premier tourist attraction in Tasmania, dedicated to recreating living railway history.
We are a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation currently undergoing a significant period of transformation and growth.
Our Mechanical Workshop operates as a heavy industry environment, vital for the preservation and operational readiness of our historic fleet.
The Opportunity
We are seeking experienced and qualified Welders to join our dedicated Mechanical Workshop team.
This is a hands-on role where your skills will directly contribute to the restoration, maintenance, and ongoing safety of our unique collection of locomotives and rollingstock.
If you are passionate about applying your trade in a historical context and ensuring the longevity of valuable heritage assets, this is a highly rewarding opportunity.
Skilled trades are HIGHLY desired for this role.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
Perform welding, fabrication, and repair tasks on various components of locomotives, carriages, wagons, and other railway infrastructure, adhering to industry standards and safety protocols.
Work with a range of materials, including steel and other metals, using various welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, Arc).
Assist with the inspection and assessment of rollingstock and workshop equipment to identify repair needs.
Collaborate with other skilled tradespeople, engineers, and volunteers within the Mechanical Workshop.
Adhere strictly to all DRR safety procedures, workshop competencies, and operational guidelines.
Contribute to a positive and collaborative workshop environment.
