About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious spray tractor operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience operating spray equipment and tractors, with strong knowledge of chemical handling, mixing, and application. This role requires versatility and flexibility to operate various types of farm equipment as needed, work varied schedules with a strong emphasis on night and early morning spraying operations, and assist with manual labour and maintenance tasks when not operating equipment.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate spray tractors and boom sprayers for application of herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers, primarily during night shifts and early morning hours to optimize spray conditions
* Operate other farm equipment and machinery as required, including general tractors, harvesters, loaders, and implements
* Mix and prepare chemical solutions according to specified rates, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements
* Calibrate spray equipment to ensure accurate application rates and coverage
* Monitor weather conditions including temperature, wind speed, and humidity to maximize spray effectiveness and minimize drift
* Maintain spray equipment including nozzles, filters, pumps, and boom systems
* Perform routine maintenance checks and minor repairs on tractors and all farm equipment
* Clean and decontaminate spray equipment thoroughly between different chemical applications
* Assist with manual labour tasks during downtime, including general maintenance, repairs, and other physical work as required
* Follow all safety protocols when handling, storing, and applying chemicals, particularly when working night shifts
* Maintain accurate records of chemical applications, areas covered, products used, rates applied, and weather conditions
* Ensure compliance with all environmental and agricultural regulations
* Work flexible hours with primary focus on night and early morning shifts, as well as weekends and public holidays as weather and operational needs require
Qualifications
* Minimum 3-5 years of experience operating spray tractors and boom sprayers
* Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of farm equipment and machinery
* Willingness and ability to work predominantly night shifts and early morning hours (typically starting between 10pm-4am)
* Valid driver's license; commercial driver's license (CDL) preferred
* Chemical handling certification (ChemCert or equivalent) or willingness to obtain
* Experience with GPS, auto-steer, and precision agriculture technology
