Job Description
Our client, H Randhawa & P Randhawa trading as Far North Bananas, a well-established banana farming enterprise based in Innisfail, QLD, is seeking a full-time Horticulture Grower to support and manage banana production across their two farm sites in Lower Cowley (105 acres at Gangemi Rd and 125 acres at Hill End Rd); the role involves overseeing all aspects of banana cultivation including planting, crop maintenance, irrigation, fertilisation, pest and disease control, and harvesting, while ensuring optimal growing conditions, maintaining farm infrastructure, supporting quality and yield targets, complying with WHS and biosecurity standards, and working closely with farm management to meet production and market requirements.
Job Responsibility:
* Cultivate and manage the growth and production of banana crops to ensure high yield, quality, and market readiness.
Duties:
* Plan and coordinate banana production cycles from land preparation, planting, and crop maintenance through to harvesting, considering weather conditions, soil health, and market demand.
* Select and plant banana suckers/tissue culture plants and manage propagation to maintain crop consistency and productivity.
* Maintain crop health through de-leafing, de-suckering, propping, bagging, and pruning to ensure optimal growing conditions and fruit quality.
* Organise and oversee farm operations including harvesting, de-handing, washing, grading, packing, storage, and dispatch of bananas.
* Direct and manage fertilisation programs, irrigation scheduling, and pest and disease control specific to banana production.
* Maintain farm infrastructure including irrigation systems, drainage, farm roads, buildings, and equipment.
* Keep accurate records of production, input usage, yields, and quality; monitor market trends to align production with demand and contracts.
* Manage operational budgets, input costs, and overall farm profitability including financial planning and reporting.
* Recruit, train, and supervise farm workers and contractors to ensure efficient and safe operations.
* Develop and implement climate risk strategies (e.g., cyclone preparedness, flood management, and heat stress mitigation).
* Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety (WHS), biosecurity, and industry quality standards.
Qualification:
* AQF BACHELOR OR HIGHER
* 2-3 years of experience in related field
Salary:
* $70,000 - $85,000 + Superannuation
