The Role
JWA Pty Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Ecologist to join our dynamic team. The suitable candidate will have developed skills in undertaking field surveys and assessing compliance with relevant Local, State and Federal Legislation. As a work from home role, you will work autonomously, with guidance as required from the Director/Principal Ecologist and the team, in providing expert ecological consulting services to our diverse range of clients. This position offers the opportunity to work on a range of challenging and rewarding projects.
What you'll be doing
Specifically, you will:
Undertake comprehensive ecological assessments independently or as part of a team throughout South-east Queensland and Northern NSW, including flora and fauna surveys, vegetation identification and mapping, targeted threatened species surveys and habitat assessments etc. to support environmental impact assessments and development proposals.
Prepare detailed technical reports and management plans to assist in the management of residential and infrastructure developments in accordance with specific Local, State and/or Commonwealth requirements.
Assist in completing various ongoing ecological monitoring projects.
Provide expert advice and recommendations to clients on ecological issues.
Liaise with clients, associated consultants, government representatives and authorities.
Collaborate with planners, engineers, and other environmental specialists to deliver integrated project outcomes.
What we're looking for
Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Ecology or a related discipline.
Minimum 8 years of demonstrated experience as a Senior Ecologist, preferably within a consulting environment.
A strong working knowledge of South-east Queensland and Northern NSW ecosystems and regional ecology.
Comprehensive understanding of environmental legislation, policies and regulations, particularly in the Queensland and NSW context.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a proven track record in delivering high-quality ecological assessments and technical reports.
Strong project management capabilities, including the ability to work independently and lead project teams.
Current driver's licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
Highly regarded (but not essential):
BAM Accreditation under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Regulation 2017.
Advanced botanical/plant identification skills within the South-east Queensland and Northern NSW regions.
Experience in the assessment and approval of environmental offset sites under relevant Commonwealth and Queensland policies and guidelines (e.g. preparing Offset Area Management Plans for Commonwealth approval, preparing Offset Delivery Plans and registering Advanced Offset areas in Queensland).
