We are currently recruiting for a Project Director for our client, a NSW Government agency based in Queanbeyan. This is an initial 12‑month contract with strong possibility of extension due to a significant pipeline of projects. The pay rate is $982 per day + super (or $1,099.84 per day ABN) for 40 hours per week, with a maximum of 228 working days per year. Candidates must be located in or close to Queanbeyan due to the onsite nature of the work.
The Project Director role will be responsible for leading the delivery of major school construction projects, managing consultancies, and ensuring successful outcomes across planning, design and delivery phases. The role requires strong stakeholder engagement with internal stakeholders and onsite interaction with contractors to identify risks early and ensure projects remain on track.
Key Accountabilities:
* Lead the delivery of major school capital works projects ranging from $20M to $90M, ensuring they are delivered in line with program objectives.
* Provide strong stakeholder engagement, particularly with internal government partners, project teams, consultants, and contractors.
* Oversee the performance of consultancies who manage contractors, ensuring governance, quality and program compliance.
* Conduct onsite inspections, proactively identify risks, and recommend solutions to maintain project momentum.
* Manage program reporting, risk management, compliance requirements and project documentation across all assigned projects.
Candidate Requirements:
* Demonstrated experience delivering large construction projects valued over $20M, ideally longer duration projects (2–3 years).
* 10+ years' experience in construction project planning and delivery.
* Relevant tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications in Construction, Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.
* Strong onsite delivery capability and experience working directly with contractors and delivery partners.
* Well‑developed stakeholder engagement skills, especially within government or similarly complex environments.
* NSW Government experience (client‑side or consultancy) and/or GC21 contract experience is desirable.
* Must be based near Queanbeyan due to regular onsite presence at project locations.
