Join Our Team as a Facility Assistant – Animal Management Facility
About the role:
As a Facility Assistant, you'll play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the Tweed Shire Council Animal Management Facility. Reporting to the Facility Officer, you'll be responsible for:
* Observing and reporting animal health and behaviour.
* Administering medication and providing basic first aid under veterinary guidance.
* Cleaning kennels, catteries, and livestock areas to maintain hygiene and meet husbandry standards.
* Assisting with facility presentation and laundry duties.
* Updating records in Council systems and external databases such as the Companion Animal Register (CAR).
* Providing respectful and helpful customer service, including processing payments.
* Handling sensitive situations with tact and professionalism.
This role requires a practical understanding of animal management facilities and associated tasks, including euthanasia.

We are seeking:
* Certificate II in Animal Care Services (or equivalent) and experience handling companion animals and livestock in commercial or regulatory settings.
* Ability to manage anxious, aggressive, or fearful animals; knowledge of animal husbandry, disease prevention, and breed-specific behaviours.
* Strong customer service skills, especially in sensitive situations, with accurate record-keeping and reporting.
* Proficiency in basic computer software and Council systems.

Where it's located:
This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
